Nostalgia Racing
Up DYO Drag Racing

YES ! There will be Nostalgia Drag Racing in Australia in 2005 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The following is how nostalgia drag racing in Australia is panning out for 2005, as I understand it. Please note that this page is designed as a rough guide and you should keep an eye on the organiser's webpage which is  http://www.nostalgiadrags.com.au/.

What is it ?

Nostalgia Drag Racing has been formulated to allow people to drag race older style  vehicles in an enjoyable, safe and friendly environment. It covers a wide range of early vehicles from “race only” dragsters to street driven hot rods, American/Australian customs and  muscle cars.

It doesn't matter whether your car does 9 or 19 second elapsed times, the idea is to have a fun day of racing. The racing is handicapped, based on how fast you think your car can go, so the slower 19 second car has got just as much chance (or more) of winning.

This type of racing is called Dial-Your-Own (DYO) drag racing.  For more information on how this works, check out the "DYO Drag Racing" page above.

Who can enter ?

Nostalgia Drag Racing is open to any pre 1975 vehicles which fall into the following categories :

Regulations

All vehicles must comply with the Australian National Drag Racing  Association's (ANDRA) regulations however the regulations are pretty simple unless your car is doing elapsed times faster than 13.0.

If you are slower than 13.0, the most significant rules are :

- A minimum of a 3 point lap/sash seat belt required

- All fluid overflows must go into catch bottles eg. radiator overflow

- Battery must be clamped down

- Two return springs on the accelerator cable

- The usual safety stuff like brakes, tyres, steering etc

- Helmet to AS1698 1974/1998 standard, long sleeve upper garment, long pants and covered footwear

Of course this is not all the rules but the most significant, as I see them. I am hoping a check list may be generated to help people check the important items ahead of the event.

Items of interest to cars faster than 12.99 seconds :

- Tail shaft loops required on cars faster than 12.99

- Open cars faster than 12.99 require a rollbar. Open cars faster than 11.00 require a full roll cage to ANDRA specs

- Minimum 4 point harness for cars faster than 11.99

- Purpose built race vehicles quicker than 10.99 must comply with the relevant ANDRA class and safety requirements, the vehicle must have a current tech sticker and entrants must be fully licenced for the vehicle.

So why not give it a go ? I  sure you will enjoy the experience.
